New original oil painting — 12×12 in, oil on canvas
She shows up at the edge of my backyard water most mornings. Unhurried. Deliberate. Moving through the world as if she has already decided that nothing requires panic. I have been watching her for a long time, and this painting is what that watching became.
About the Painting
Wings of Quiet Resolve is a new 12×12-inch oil painting that captures a moment of poised strength and serene grace. At its center, a Great White Egret glides smoothly just above the water's surface, wings fully outstretched in a deliberate, fluid motion. Each feather is carefully painted with soft strokes of white, cream, and light brown, giving texture and life to the bird's form while suggesting subtle movement.
The cool, deep blue background contrasts with gently scattered golden leaves floating nearby, adding warmth and depth to the composition. Together, these elements create a balanced interplay between stillness and energy, reflecting the delicate power of this remarkable bird in motion.
The Inspiration
This piece grew from my own quiet observations. The great white egret often appears along the edge of the water in my backyard here in Merritt Island, Florida. Its presence is steady and unhurried, every step measured with intention and confidence. Despite its alertness, the egret carries an air of peaceful solitude, moving with an elegance that feels both purposeful and unforced. Observing this bird over time inspired me to explore how resilience and calm resolve can coexist within a single moment.
The Process
Creating Wings of Quiet Resolve involved a layered approach to atmosphere and texture. I built the background using multiple thin layers of oil glaze combined with dry brushwork to evoke a dreamlike quality that honors the tranquil space this bird inhabits. To finalize the piece, I applied cold wax, a technique that enhances the brushstrokes and adds a subtle richness that draws the eye into the depth of the painting. It also mirrors the ethereal glow of the egret's golden-white feathers, emphasizing its quiet, luminous presence.
An Invitation
Strength doesn't always roar. Sometimes it simply unfolds like wings. Steady and assured above the water's surface.
Wings of Quiet Resolve is a reflection on grace under pressure and the confidence found in embracing one's path with calm focus. It encourages a moment of mindfulness: to recognize the beauty and power that emerge when we move through life with awareness and intention.
