A New Oil Painting: In the Stillness of Sunlit Bonds

In the Stillness of Sunlit Bonds is a new oil painting on linen, measuring 48 by 36 inches, that captures a moment of quiet connection between a woman and a horse on a beach at sunset. This work brings to life a serene scene where the woman, dressed in a flowing white dress, kneels in the sand with her arms gently wrapped around the horse’s neck, her head resting close to the horse’s face. The horse, with its strong frame and light cream coat, sits calmly beside her. Behind them, the sky softens into warm shades of orange and pink melting into pale blue, while the ocean’s gentle waves brush the shoreline, all contributing to a sense of peace and trust between the two figures.

The Story Behind the Painting 

This painting grew from my deep and ongoing relationship with horses, particularly white horses, which have long symbolized transformation in my life. Each time I paint a white horse, it feels like returning to a powerful source of grounding and change. With In the Stillness of Sunlit Bonds, I aimed to share not just an image, but the emotional resonance of that bond: the quiet strength and profound trust that can exist between human and animal.

The Technique: Layers of Oil Glazes 

One of the unique aspects of this piece is the technique I used. Building the forms and light through many layers of oil glazes and opaque paints allowed me to create a rich depth and atmosphere, inviting the viewer to step into the soft warmth of that moment. The layering process echoes the way relationships develop over time, with subtle shifts, layers of understanding, and moments of grace.

An Invitation to Reflect 

This painting isn’t simply a portrait of a woman and a horse by the shore. It’s an invitation to reflect on the steady connections that sustain us through change. To pause in the stillness, to feel the gentle support present in true companionship, and to recognize the quiet power found in vulnerability shared. My hope is that this scene will resonate with anyone who has experienced the comfort of a bond that offers both strength and peace.
