Beneath the Guardian's Wing

With “Beneath the Guardian’s Wing”, I aim to share a moment of reassurance. It’s an invitation to recognize the everyday acts of guardianship and connection that sustain us, whether in nature or in our own lives.
I’m pleased to introduce “Beneath the Guardian’s Wing”, a 22 by 30-inch mixed media piece on watercolor paper that explores the quiet strength found in protection and connection within nature. This work depicts a family of five owls resting closely together on a woven nest. Their feathers blend soft whites and grays, marked with gentle hints of brown and black, creating a natural harmony among the group. One owl extends its wing over the others in a clear gesture of care, offering shelter and safety that feels immediate and heartfelt.

The nest itself is crafted from a detailed tangle of twigs and straw, rendered with textures that invite you to imagine the roughness and warmth of this natural refuge. Behind them, a subdued forested backdrop in muted blues and greens envelopes the scene in calm, reinforcing the intimacy shared beneath that protective wing. The overall composition centers on themes of unity, warmth, and the quiet assurance that comes from being held close.
The inspiration for this piece came from witnessing a mother owl’s instinct to shield her family, a gesture that moved me deeply. It’s a reminder of the power found in small acts of care and the ways protection can feel both gentle and steadfast.
Creating this work involved building layer upon layer of mixed media elements to develop an atmosphere that supports the emotional core of the scene—the tender strength in that singular gesture of protection. Each layer added depth and nuance, encouraging viewers not just to see the owls but to feel the warmth enveloping them.
With “Beneath the Guardian’s Wing”, I aim to share a moment of reassurance. It’s an invitation to recognize the everyday acts of guardianship and connection that sustain us, whether in nature or in our own lives. I hope this piece offers a sense of calm and belonging, a quiet reflection on how care can be both a shelter and a bond.
It’s about the journey, not the destination.
