Whispers Along the Water’s Edge invites you into a quiet moment of natural grace. Two white egrets stand side by side at the edge of a wetland, their delicate feathers rendered in soft, flowing strokes that catch the warm glow of sunset. Their slender necks curve with quiet elegance, each beak angled gently, as if both birds are listening to something carried on the breeze. 

The scene rests in warm golden light, balanced by muted blues and earthy tones that create a calm, grounded backdrop. Below the egrets, the water holds their reflection and the soft halo of light around them, adding depth and a sense of stillness to the composition. 

This is one of the everyday moments I get to witness in my own backyard here on Merritt Island, where great white egrets visit regularly along the water’s edge. Watching them flare their pristine plumage against the fading light brings a quiet kind of awe, a beauty that feels both simple and profound. Working in layers of oil glaze, opaque passages, and cold wax medium, I built up the texture and soft, tactile glow that let me capture not just the birds themselves but the way light settles over their feathers and the water. 

More than a portrait of two birds, this painting is a moment of calm to carry with you. My hope is that it offers a space to pause, breathe, and notice the gentle beauty in the world around you.
