Echoes of a Sandhill's Sunrise Ballet captures a sandhill crane suspended in a moment of courtship dance, wings fully extended over shallow water at dawn. Soft blues, whites, and warm reddish tones move across the feathers, echoing the subtle shifts of light at sunrise. Above, a luminous golden-yellow sun radiates warmth across the sky, while the shallow water below mirrors the scene in blended oranges, golds, and cool blues, grounding the composition in a reflective calm.

This piece builds on a layering technique I've come to rely on: alternating glazes and opaques in oil, accompanied by hot wax to add texture and depth. This process allows me to explore how light interacts with form over time, bringing the dance to a palpable intensity and subtle power.

Part of my Coastal Birds series, this original oil and cold wax painting explores themes of freedom, renewal, and the quiet rhythms of nature. It invites viewers to pause and find their own sense of balance between movement and stillness.
